"Through the Clouds"

The inception of this piece began when I went on a Bison harvest to the Kuskokwim River valley. The weather quickly turned from sunny autumn to the beginning of winter, when a snowstorm coated the landscape with a fresh blanket of snow.
I ended up hunkered down in a Iditarod shelter cabin until the weather lifted. A walk outside after the snow stopped caused my jaw to drop in amazement after the sudden change left the mountains looking so crisp and clean. The clouds were framing a particularly majestic slice of ridge line, one quick photo, and hours of painting resulted in "Through the Clouds".
